LARGE: UZ Auto Trans Inc., Denver, Colorado
United Road’s large category Haully Carrier of the Year winner for 2021 is Jamshid Yulzhiyez and his UZ Auto Trans Inc. team, located in Denver. Jamshid founded his company in 2008 with one four-vehicle hauler. Since then, he has grown his business into a successful carhaul operation, annually transporting more than 20,000 units with his nine- and seven-vehicle haulers and 100 drivers.
Manager Zabi Abbu said, “My cousin started with one trailer and a driver. With no experience or knowledge, we had to learn as we went. It was a lot of hard work and long hours, which is why I believe we are successful today.” He adds, “We get about 30% of our loads from Haully. My dispatchers love the Haully app because it’s easier than booking loads over the phone and is available 24/7. Some of the other sites do not have instant booking. Haully allows drivers to download the paperwork to get the BOLs and releases. Most of the loads have good rates on them, also.”
UZ Auto Trans is family and community-minded. “We began hiring college graduates from overseas to give them better opportunities. We have helped some employees start their own companies. It feels good to see our employees prosper,” Zabi said.
We asked Zabi how he motivates their team. “We try to keep everyone positive. In this business, things can get crazy! When work gets overwhelming, we give our employees time off and bonuses. We want our employees refreshed, happy and productive. This is the foundation of a strong business.”
Mid-Sized: Kolos Inc., Morton Grove, Illinois
United Road’s operations management team selected Kolos for its on-time and damage-free delivery metrics and revenue hauled, among other strong points. Kolos also is a Haully Pro Carrier, joining an elite group of more than 200 carriers who receive additional benefits, including a dedicated “concierge” dispatcher.
Owner Nick Ivanus founded Kolos in 2011 in Morton Grove, Illinois. Nick said, “Haully has been beneficial for our company. We book loads quickly and efficiently, which helps make our company successful.”
Nick adds, “Our company is dedicated to hard work. I ensure that my drivers are providing good customer service. The carhaul industry has daily challenges such as weather, truck and driver issues. We are only human, so we feel stressed and overwhelmed at times, so achieving this award is a great honor. It confirms that I am doing a good job. We try to do the best we can like any other carhauler.”
Small: Eco Way Transport LLC, River Grove, Illinois
Eco Way Transport LLC became a Haully Pro Carrier in July 2021. They also are now the 2021 Haully Carrier of the Year in the small carrier category. This recognition is a testament to this new family-owned and operated business founded in 2020. The six-person team moves about 10,000 vehicles annually.
Milo Slezak, one of the co-founders, said team members lost their jobs during the pandemic, despite years of industry experience. “Eco Way Transport rose from the ashes! Even if you lose your job or your business doesn’t work out, it isn’t the end of the world. It felt like we were at the bottom, but fast forward to today. We are much better off! You can always turn things around and achieve bigger rewards than before – just don’t give up!”
According to Milo, “Although we are a newer company, every member of our team has many years of industry experience. He said Haully is a contributor to his company’s success, “I love the fact that when you book loads, it shows available backhauls right on the same page. I can book a load, and the backhaul is right there without having to go and search for it. It saves us time and frustration having to look for and call brokers.” He adds, “Haully has helped streamline our operation. It’s even made our accounting simpler as everything is in one place.”
